Rangers Hold Athletic Bilbao to Goalless Draw in Europa League 2025

UEFA Europa League

Rangers FC were held to a 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the 2025 UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, during a tense match at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow.

Despite being reduced to 10 men as early as the 13th minute following the sending off of defender Robin Pröpper for a foul on Iñaki Williams the Scottish side showed remarkable resilience to withstand Bilbao’s pressure.

Athletic Bilbao dominated possession and created the clearer chances. Álex Berenguer even found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Shortly after, Berenguer had a golden opportunity to score from the penalty spot, but Rangers’ goalkeeper Liam Kelly produced a brilliant save to keep the scoreline level.

The stalemate leaves everything to play for in the second leg, which will take place next week at the iconic San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao. Fans are anticipating a thrilling encounter in Spain, with a place in the 2025 UEFA Europa League semi-finals at stake.
